Insect pest sampling

To quantify pest populations, proper sampling techniques must be used.  Incorrect sampling designs, insufficient sample sizes, and improper sampling techniques can result in erroneous pest management decisions that could have severe implications to a grower’s bottom line.  Furthermore, economic thresholds are not available for several insect pests and/or are in need of revision.  Research at Weslaco is focused on using population statistical procedures to develop reliable insect population sampling procedures.
