Insect pest sampling

To quantify pest populations, proper sampling techniques must be used. ¬†Incorrect sampling designs, insufficient sample sizes, and improper sampling techniques can result in erroneous pest management decisions that could have severe implications to a grower’s bottom line. ¬†Furthermore, economic thresholds are not available for several insect pests and/or are in need of revision. ¬†Research at Weslaco is focused on using population statistical procedures to develop reliable insect population sampling procedures.
