Insects are always moving around as they locate food and mates, and escape harsh conditions.  In many cases, insect populations are not evenly distributed in the landscape and are often associated with landscape features such as field edges and differences in host plant quality.  Targeted pest management may be achieved by identifying those features that affect spatial abundance of insect populations, thereby reducing management costs, preserving natural enemies, and minimizing insecticide resistance.
