Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

Texas AgriLife Research Vegetable IPM Laboratory at Weslaco

The cornerstone of insect pest management, whereby pest populations are managed through a combination of chemical, biological and cultural control strategies.  As new technologies become available, these can be incorporated into existing IPM programs. What is going on outside of the agroecosytem that can be manipulated to prevent or minimize insect pest outbreaks?  In many cases, this important question is neglected and long-term pest management can be seriously hampered.  Recently, more attention has been directed at developing ecologically-based pest management (EBPM). EBPM uses ecological theory and principles to manage pest populations.
